pleven
pleven is quite a big city of 105.000 inhabitants, located in the middle of north-bulgaria 170 kms from sofia, 50 kms from the danube and 320 kms from the blacksea coast. it is in the middle of a rural area, there is a little river the vit with a sidearm called tuchenitsa know in pleven as the barata streaming north in the danube. historically pleven is know for the siege of plevna in 1877-1878 where the osman empire was defeated by the russian tsar aleksander II. many monuments remember the liberation of pleven: panorama, the old fort, general skobolov, the monument 1877-1944, the statue of aleksander II, the huge regional historical museum and the small museum of aleksander II and the russian mausoleum (ossuarium) and the turkish bath (svetlin rusev house).
